Peace & Impact Talk: heart-warming get-together on peacebuilding & book launch

28-05-2021 At 12:00 CET we introduced to the world our book ‘Become a Peacebuilder and Impact Leader, a practical guide’, published by Futuro Publishers in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The event was kicked off by Jessica Lockhart from the International Institute of Humanology in Switzerland. She called on all people in the audience to look inside themselves. When you can develop Inner Peace yourself it becomes so much easier to share peace with others. Although this sounds obvious, have you ever asked ourselves what gives you peace? Jessica gave us all an exercise to check if we do, ask ourselves what gives you a peaceful feeling. And do the opposite of limiting yourself, expand on it and find as many things as possible the give you a peaceful feeling to optimize the change you can feel that at least once a day…. then you’re making a good start on developing inner peace.

After speakers Noor Zia (Pakistan), Alinis Aranguren (Venezuela), Sharon Chileshe (Zambia), and poet Hidayet Ceylan (Australia), who all shared their work on peacebuilding and their experience with our Train-the-Trainer on peacebuilding and impact leadership, it was time to present our book to the world.

Presentation 'Become a Peacebuilder and Impact Leader, a practical guide'

Author Saskia Harkema shared her dream with the audience; to bring about a grassroots wave of people contributing to peace, creating peace as part of their daily life. Since war is a business, we should invest in Peace as a business. We shouldn’t leave peacebuilding to politicians and NGO’s it can and shall be part of everything we do. At ImpactLeaders international, we’re training and coaching the new kind of peacebuilders with an entrepreneurial approach; developing the Value Proposition for Peace. Our Peacebuilders and Impact Leaders are the pioneers of the Economy of Peace to counterbalance the Economy of War that is nowadays prevalent.

After the presentation of the book ‘Become a Peacebuilder and Impact Leader, a practical guide’ Jessica Lockhart invited the panelists to share their thoughts on ‘How to create an Economy of Peace’. Mireille Toulekima, Amir Sabirovic, Basili Mvungi shared their visions based on varying perspectives and different experiences. But all pointing in the same direction, that whoever you are, whatever we’re responsible for, we should all seek to develop, integrate and contribute to a culture of Peace with everything we think and do.

Working with Partners on new cooperation

Empowering Youth at the fringes of Europe In the first quarter of the year, we have been working with three partners to develop a program on empowering youth that live in border areas. The good thing was that one of our partners had found a way to co-fund the idea we had  in 2022 through the EU's Erasmus+ program . This gave a us a clear deadline to work on for 22 March 2023.  Erasmus+ proposal: FRINGE-ACT And Yes! we submitted our plan in time, and we think we found a tantalizing acronym 'FRINGE-ACT' for our project that symbolises the core of our idea; acting with our empowerment and entrepreneurship program in border regions. Through interaction with organisations that operate in border areas we realised that our program has real value to offer in specifically that context. Together with Changemakers4all from North-Macedonia, Market Leader from Turkey and Stichting International Youth Bridges we gave further shape to the initial idea to use our Impactleaders program to

ImpactLeader launches book on Women's Day

Our Inclusion Leader, Noorzia Afridi is launching her first book  'The power is YOU, An odyssey towards self-empowerment'  on March 8th, not accidentally International Women's Day. Noorzia is a Human Rights Activist from Pakistan and worked together with our International Leader Saskia Harkema to write down her life story.  The book shares the life story of Noorzia Afridi who comes from a remote tribal area in Pakistan, next to the border of Afghanistan. There she fought for her right to an education, which is denied to women. She also was forced to marry as a child, which she refused. In 2008 she set up a foundation, SAWERA, to fight for women's empowerment. She has won many prizes for her work. When the Taliban discovered she was doing this work with women, she became a target and lost many family members as a consequence.   Her story inspired both writers to develop a method to empower other women. With the lotus flower as a metaphor, they describe the odyssey to sel

Creating a fairer world for future generations

For the occasion of International Day of Human Rights 2022, Faces of Change foundation and ImpactLeaders international organized an event in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The keynote speaker was Jessica Lockhart, CEO and Founder of the International Institute of Humanology . The title of her presentation was ‘I have a dream too’.  Jessica Lockhart took us on a journey to understand her dream of a fair and peaceful world. She is convinced her dream can be realised, because; peace starts with us, so we can do it. But how can we become peacebuilders? The 'narrative of war' is so mainstream, and we have learned to believe it is justifiable to use violence to resolve a conflict. It all starts with our beliefs. Our beliefs, which we learned through our education and upbringing, somehow teach us that when there is a conflict, the best solution supposedly is to intervene through aggression and retaliation. We can see how well that has worked in the past centuries. If we realise that it al
